Ok. This is something I was wondering about. If someone was to get a "Swinford Bandoge" and it is not worked would it be a Swinford? Does it need to be worked to be considered a Swinford or just a mutt? I have been doing all kinds of reasearch and I have found that a Swinford  is basically a cross between an English Mastiff and a Game Bred Pit. But some breeders say that if they are not worked in some type of way the dog would be considered a mutt. (since it is a cross breed)  Thanks for any info.

I will say when it is time for me to get a Swinford she will be worked. I am in the process of trying to find a good trainer in my area .I don't even have a puppy yet.  If anyone knows of a trrainer somewhere near Charlotte NC please let me know.

The parents have to be worked. This requires proof of work prior to every breeding in order to maintain the breed's quality performance. If the parents are non-working, then the dog isn't a Swinford. If the parents were not worked, but the given specimen is, then it may be accepted.

Lee, can you comment on Tom's research regarding the Swimford being a cross of English Mastiff and a Game Bred Pit.

Looking through your "Past Generations" page; Luci doesn't look like a game-bred dog?

Just trying to understand this a bit better

Swinford indeed used the game bred APBT. We too have used such dogs in our lines, but we used Luci in our program to add trainability, desire to work to please, and muscle mass. She was out of PROVEN (the world record holder in fact) working dogs, and she was very high drive...and wouldn't back down from a challenge from a man or a beast...although being of Whopper lines she was not of game tested stock.

So...what if a dog from your program was crossed with a game bred APBT? What would you consider the offspring to be titled? Or if crossed with other APBT mix that is of working quality? Just curious. I've tried explaining the basics to some Bandog breeders when they hear the name Swinford. I used to call them "Home made Bull Mastiff" at 1st until  I understood the breakdown!
