I have been working on our program for over a decade now, and I would like to cut down to just 8 dogs so I could 1. spend more time doing some other things with my family or 2. spend more time with my dogs on a more personable level. I will still continue to breed our dogs for MANY years and have NO PLANS on getting out of the program. I love the dogs and always will, but at this stage of the game I no longer need to keep 15-20 dogs just to have them as workers or breeders that only get worked to evaluate them. In the future, I also want to have fewer litters per year (most likely no more than 2 or 3 litters per year).
Unfortunately, to do this I will have to let go of some dogs that I would personally like to keep, as they are top notch! I can't stand the idea of them being lost. I have too much time, work, sweat, and money invested in them. I want them to REMAIN part of the program as I have SO MUCH WORK into creating some of these individual dogs and lines. For this reason, I have no desire to sell them to non-breeders and pet homes although that would of course be a great life. Instead, I would like to find some people that are interested in being their companions, yes...but that are also interested in working the dogs and breeding them. I want my work to truly be a breed that has a long lasting future as the family companion guardian.
The good news is I have already done the hardest part of the work. Over a decade of careful selection has put me into a position of developing an actual breed SPECIFICALLY selected to be a working class family companion guardian. Many of the dogs I will offer for sale in this package deal would be worth $2500 by themselves, but because my work means so much to me, some dogs will be specifically pulled aside to be sold exclusively as "breed worthy candidates" suitable for my own program and will not be available to those just looking for a pet.
So here's the deal. I have decided to offer a "breeder's package" for $2500 + shipping. Breeding working class dogs is a labor of love and will cost a considerable amount of time, work, and money. Please have no illusions and do NOT get into this with the intensions of making money as that is not likely to happen. Although that can happen, it probably won't.
Here are the terms to our breeder package...
1st - While the breed certainly is a bandog, our program is far more specific than that. A bandog is a generic name, and does not properly define a breed; therefore, anyone that chooses the breeders option agrees to NOT to be refer to as simply "Bandogs." Additionally, the client must agree to refer to the dogs aquired from us a "Swinfords" or "Swinford K-9" unless we (as an organization) decide to change the breed's name in the future. The goal of the breeder's program is ENSURE the breed's survival, and this begins by developing the proper mindset for such. It must be viewed upon as a specific breed, and not just a type of dog. (Note: the Swinford K-9 does have a written breed standard that clearly defines the criteria needed to ensure its ability to perform as a family companion guardian. The standard defines the breed's attributes for working, structure, temperament, and origin).
2nd - Aquisition of the dogs may be all at once but does NOT have to be all at once. I am willing to allow people interested in this package the option of aquiring (and paying for) dogs either all at once or one at a time. Should someone be interested in a dog currently available but wish to postpone the aquisition of a future prospect from a future breeding, that is fine with me.
3rd - The dogs will come with a full working class guarantee from my program. If they are unable to meet the working requirements as defined within the breed's standard, they shall not be bred. If one selects one of our adult dogs that has already proven its worth, then papers will be issued at the time of purchase. If one selects a prospect that we believe is a quality pup, then breeding rights will ONLY be issued once the dog has proven worthy. Should a dog fail to meet working class requirements as defined by the breed standard, then no worries...I do not need any "proof" as to why to confirm the issues (although I would like details just to know why for my own reasons). All I will need to offer a replacement to the client is confirmation that the dog will not be bred...in other words, confirmation that the dog has been spayed or neutered (confirmed by vet records and photos). Once that is done, I will agree to provide the client with their replacement prospect.
4th - One must qualify for this package by showing me WHERE they are going to keep the dogs. If the dogs will live in your home, the package will be limited to just 2 dogs...one male and one female. If however you have a SOLID and WELL-BUILT kennel that you could house a 3rd dog in, then the package will include 1 male and 2 females. Those who opt for the 1 male/2 females deal may be required to illustrate their experience with working and keeping dogs, as I am not interested in any of our dogs just being a "kennel dog." I could do that myself if I was comfortable with such. If someone would rather not recieve a male, but would like to use one of my males as their stud instead, that is something I would agree to. If that should be the case, I will not charge any additional fees for the semen from an agreed upon male; however, the client would be responsible for any collection and shipping costs required for this option.
5th - Finally, any and all clients that choose to participate in our breeder's program agree to offer me a pup of my choosing free of charge should I wish to obtain a puppy from a specific breeding; however, any and all shipping costs (crate, health certificate, air fare, etc) will be my responsibility. One might think that is asking a bit much, but please recall...1. I will be offering dogs that are of such quality that I myself would be interested in keeping them, 2. I do have over a decade of work invested in this program, and 3. I have over $120,000 invested in this program...all of which someone will get for $2500 if they choose our breeder's program. I will also assist participants in this breeder's program by helping them select the right individuals that should pair up well.
It is time to ensure that our work truly becomes a breed with a lasting future. If interested, feel free to contact me by email (chimerakennels@msn.com) or by phone (601) 573-3449.

Thanks for the kind words. Johnny actually only picked up one dog...Freedom (who is out of Linebaugh and Chili-Pepper), but he also bred one of his females with our boy Preacher-Man. We have a few other things planned for 2011 as well...all of which should help the program reach the next level.

Lee : Sounds like some fantastic changes are coming to Chimera Kennels: (1) IMO "TIME " is more valuable than "ANYTHING" we only get one turn in this life. It is one of the reasons I have chosen to set aside my Military career and put family "FIRST" something I had not previously done. (2) I know you understand how I feel about forming a true bond, it requires a lot of time and devotion. I love and respect my dogs and consider them part of my family. I am no expert dog man but have had dogs throughtout my life as long as I can remember . I can only express my " "OPNIONS " from my own experiences. I believe you are on the right track. Change is good and a new focus will most certainly benefit you and your program!
