Clients typically under estimate the valuable role females play in a breeding program. The female doesn't just produce the offspring, she also raises them and actually contributes slightly over half the genetic information to the offspring (if one considers mitochondrial DNA). Still though, males and sires tend to be in the spot light. I would like to remind people that quality breeding programs will not only have nice males, but must also have exceptional females as well. We select our females every bit as hard as we do our males. Strong females (both mind and body) are essential to any good program. (Listed in alphebetical order).

A quality breeding program must maintain access to a significant gene pool of quality specimens from which appropriate breeding selections can be made. Most kennels mistakenly base their program off only one or two males and pair such dogs with only average females. Such undedicated kennels do this because they know most clients only look at the male, so these "programs" mistakingly view keeping a number of quality males as an unnecessary cost. This is a huge mistake that restricts breeding decisions and genetic selection. Then over time, while they produce many average dogs but only a rare gem, they wonder why they have not been more successful...and such kennels typically fade away in just a few years. Very few Bandog based kennels last more than 5 years...as they disappear nearly as quickly as they pop up. Our program is focussed, dedicated, well established, and simply gets stronger ever year.
A kennel truly dedicated to bettering a breed must maintain access to a number of quality males and females both. Very few facilities have the time, staff, and/or resources to do this with even one breed of dog, much less several breeds of dogs. For this reason, I would suggest staying away from programs that have 2 more more breeds of dogs. Keeping a number of quality dogs requires a great deal of investment even with an established breed of dog, and when working on bettering a developing breed, this investment becomes even more compounded. This is why we focus exclusively on one breed of dog, the Swinford K-9. Quality programs must also test and properly select the best candidates prior to breeding. Only after testing a dog's ability to perform a desired task should breeding programs determine which specimens are bred. Our program sticks to our clearly defined goal to produce the ultimate family companion guardian. Few programs have an adequate number of dogs to have a qualified gene pool. Few programs understand genetic principles. Few programs have a specific and clearly defined goal. Even fewer programs test their dog’s ability to perform at a given goal. Very few programs are willing to invest the work, time, and money necessary for long term success. By developing our understanding of genetic principles, animal physiology, and animal behavior; by being able to maintain a large number of quality specimens of each sex; and by testing and selecting these dogs on their ability to perform exclusively at clearly defined and specific goals, Chimera Kennels is able to make breeding decisions that are truly in the best interest of the breed's development; therefore, we are able to solidify our success at producing stable, loyal, powerful, athletic, family companion K-9 guardians that are suitable for active family settings. Our dedication to fulfill all these requirements is why the Swinford K-9 is the finest Bandog type program in the world. If you doubt this claim, research the various programs out there and find another such program that does this. Don't look for hype, look for facts. Look at the education, training, facility, duration, foundation, depth, and success of the various "programs" that are out there and typically what you will find will consist of claims, but little facts and even lesser proof.
Over the years, Chimera Kennels has grown extensively and maintained a high quality breeding program in an independent fashion; however, to further our success for the future Chimera Kennels has expanded and have developed a few "extension programs" with select individuals. This expansion of resources allows us to select, maintain access to, train, and develop even a larger number of quality dogs, further solidifying the success of the Swinford K-9 program. One of the extension programs that has completely earned our trust is with training decoy, Daniel Jones and his family. Daniel and his wife, Angie, operate Dragon Lady Kennels (DLK). I completely endorse their operation. Earning an endorsement from us is not an easy task, as it requires extensive dedication, work, and commitment to the goal of the SSDA. It requires one to display commitment to select the best performing individuals. Although many people and programs have tried to earn my endorsement, to date very few have displayed the commitment to success the Joneses have displayed. There are some, but they are far and few between. For this reason, we have tried to assist the program at DLK. Through out the years, DLK has earned co-ownership of several of our personal picks from some of our select breedings. Dogs with this designation, although produced by Chimera Kennels, are raised and owned by DLK. The dogs at DLK are exceptional and should be viewed as equal in quality to our own personal dogs. For this reason, dogs co-owned with DLK are now listed on our website, but have the designation "DLK" after their names.
