Guarantee

Chimera Kennels offers a 2-year satisfaction guarantee on all dogs designated as and sold as “working prospects.” Our guarantee includes health, temperament, and working drive. In addition, should any dog (working class or pet class) sold by Chimera Kennels have a genetic fault that negatively affects the health, structural soundness, or performance of the animal; we agree to supply a replacement pup upon the return of the original dog. Any necessary shipping expenses for the fulfillment of this guarantee are the responsibility of the client (buyer). Being the Swinford is required to be a performance dog, only high performance dogs should be bred; therefore, our guarantee will become void if the dog has already been bred. If the client wishes they may sign, date, and send in this guarantee along with the balance of their purchase, at which point we will sign and return a copy to the client for their records; however our guarantee does not require the client to provide proof of our purchase agreement...after all, we know who we sold one of our dogs to.

Purchase Agreement

Just as it is up to us to know our limitations as a breeder, it is up to each client to know their limitations as an owner and caretaker of a canine. We carefully screen potential clients, but ultimately it is up to people to police their own behaviors and carefully consider the responsibilities of owning a dog PRIOR to obtaining one. Selling a working dog or a working prospect can be justifiable in my opinion...as it may be viewed as a commodity with a duty to fulfill a need...but "having to get rid of a pet" when some inconvenience comes along is simply revealing that the original purchase was not one of commitment, but a whim-sickle uncommitted purchase that the dog ends up paying for in the end. I ask clients to understand that the vast majority of dogs in animal shelters are not strays...but are "pets" that are relinquished by their owners. Something has to be done about this. The solution is to teach people to think and carefully consider the commitment before they buy a dog as a pet. If you are not prepared to own and care for a dog for many years, possibly a decade or more, then please stick with "stuffed animals."

I believe breeders should be willing and be given the opportunity to take back ANY unwanted pet they produce. If there is something wrong with the dog genetically, the breeder should offer the client a replacement dog/pup as the dog has not been bred. If the dog is fine genetically and the owners are simply uncommitted to caring for their pet due to "some circumstance," than the owners should GIVE the dog back to the breeder unless the breeder is willing let the dog stay with the owners until a new home is found for the dog. Under no circumstance should "pets" end up in shelters. Shelters, IMO, should only be used for stray dogs. When returned to the breeder, the owner should cover any necessary shipping costs to return the dog to the breeder if possible, unless the breeder agrees to cover such costs although we personally don't always require this. Regardless of the situation, breeders should be notified of any and all possible relocation situations that may arise and be given first opportunity to obtain the dog(s) back. I also believe such "pet owners" should carefully reconsider ever owning a dog again since it is the dogs that end up suffering as a result of lack of commitment by such owners. This is what I expect from those that get dogs from Chimera Kennels. "No kill" animal shelters are not the solution IMO. I would rather be put down than live in a 3 x 5 cage sitting on dog piss and dog crap day in and day out. By going back to the breeder, the breeder can re-evaluate the dog and determine is the dog is suitable candidate for adoption. By purchasing a dog from me and filling out the purchase agreement, all client's of Chimera Kennels agree to accept these terms regardless of if they have read these terms or not.

Deposits

Deposits of $500 are accepted to reserve a pup or dog (gender specified) and place clients on a waiting list of the client's preferred breeding. When purchasing young pups, the balance and any shipping expenses should be paid in full prior to the pups being 7 weeks of age so we may begin making any necessary shipping arrangements. We ask that clients do not send in a deposit or purchase a dog from Chimera Kennels unless they are sure of their decision, acknowledge the commitment necessary of owning a working class dog, and fully accept this responsibility. For these reasons, we do not refund deposits unless we are unable to fulfill our end of the purchase agreement. Meaning, if you send us a deposit to hold a pup, but then cancel or fail to pay the balance and shipping expenses prior to the pups being 7 weeks of age, then you agree to forfeit your deposit unless other arrangements have been made and agreed upon by Chimera Kennels.

Waiting List

With the increasing requests from clients to be placed on waiting lists for upcoming breedings, deposits are required for clients to be put on our waiting list. This allows clients to choose from pick spots that are remaining and allows them to know what pick they are going to have ahead of time.

Notes for particular breeding(s) of interest, as well as gender preferrences, will be recorded when deposits are accepted.  If we are unable to provide a given gender pup from a specified breeding, then the client can choose to have their deposit refunded (read below for more details about our deposit policy) or transferred to another pup as long as one is available. If however there are no other pups available, then they may transfer their deposit towards a future breeding should the client choose to do so. In other words, we will do our best to work with you. We will also try to work with color preferrencs as well should that be requested, but color is one thing we can not guarantee...as picks are made respectively according to the reserved pick order. Please recall, we breed on the basis of performance, not color, and therefore we report our preferrences on the basis of each prospect's promise of performance and working ability. Although we will rank the pups based upon our observations and also make recommendations based upon a client's requests, please understand the reservation order provides each client the right to choose from the remaining pups after previous picks have been made.

How the "Reserved Pick Order" works

Photos of pups may only contain "group litter shots" for the first few weeks, as pups are too small the first few weeks anyway to determine any type of performance measure. Individual pictures will be made at approximately 4 weeks of age, 6 weeks of age, and then again at 7 weeks of age. I will gladly discuss and offer videos of what I see from the pups with potential buyers to offer my observations, and will make recommendations to the clients based upon their needs; however, each client has the right to choose which pup they wish to receive according to their reservation spot. HOWEVER, picks should be made prior to the pups being 7 weeks of age so each client can get an idea of which pup they will be receiving. (Note: I reserve the right to the first picks in breedings I am keeping offspring from).

Evaluation & Pricing Methods

We will evaluate each pup and report our findings for each pup either as a "working prospect" or "pet class" based upon drive, general awareness, general confidence, and desire to work. Also included in our evaluations are interactions with people, littermates, new environments, strange things, and strange noises. All our "working prospects" are expected to be suitable for active and demanding lifestyles...or suitable for the family that simply wants the most from their pet. We will report what we believe their potential to be, and will offer our observations to each client to help them choose the right pup for their needs. However, each client still is permitted the right to choose from the remaining pups after previous picks have been made.

Occationally, every breeding program (no matter how good it may be) will produce a less demanding pup that isn't suitable for a highly demanding lifestyle, yet such a pup may still be suitable to be an excellent pet for a less demanding lifesyle. When a completely healthy but lower drive pup presents itself, it will be labelled as "pet quality" by our kennel and will be priced less than our working class dogs. Should this happen to any prospective pup that a deposit has been placed towards as a "working class" dog, then client will be informed of such and given the right to transfer their deposit towards another pup or accept the pup at our pet quality price and terms. Such "pet quality" prospects that are sold may be sold under a non-breeding contracts (final spaying/neuter judgement on pet quality pups should not being required until the pup is 1 year of age, unless other wise is stated). For more information about the price of a pup or dog of interest, contact me either by email or by phone.

Shipping

When shipping is necessary, we prefer to ship with Delta Pet-Care, but on occation may use another airline. Shipping is not included in the price of the pup and if shipping is necessary then all shipping expenses should be sent in with balance. Please check and/or confirm with us about the shipping charges to your area. Price for shipping must include the necessary vacinnations, a current health certificate, an air line approved crate, and the actual pet-cargo air fair. Typically, an additional $350 is enough to cover all the additional shipping expenses in mainland America; however, this fee is subject to change due to changing expenses or destination (as in overseas).

Acceptable Methods of Payment

I only accept payment by money order (money orders from the Post office, Walmart, most banks, and Western Union are all acceptable). I do not accept credit card, personal checks, or paypal methods of payment. I do not have the means to process a credit card payment. For this reason, if you have to use a credit card, perhaps you can use it if needed to purchase a money order. I do not accept personal checks simply because we have received checks in the past from people who simply did not have appropriate funds. If you can't afford a pup, please don't request that we reserve one for you. I do not use paypal simply because I do not wish buyers to be impulsive when purchasing an animal. We do not wish to accept your money unless you are sure you are able to own a dog for a 10-15 year commitment. The minor leg work necessary to obtain a money order is nothing compared to the responsibility of owning a Swinford dog. Owning a dog is a major responsibility and financial commitment over the lifetime of the dog. It is up to each client to know their limitations and be sure to have thought this out before purchasing a dog. This is why our deposit is non-refundable should a client be unable to fillfill their end of the purchase agreement.
